I was about 20 when I got my first SLR, a Fujica ST605, and used it to record some of the sights I saw when I travelled the world in the Merchant Navy. But back on land and married with a fast growing family I had neither the time or money for anything other than snap photography of the three growing children and package holidays, and my Pentax LX and MX were sold off to raise the cash for a few more weeks of family shopping. So it was relatively late, when I was approaching 50, that I decided I could afford to get a proper camera, first step an Olympus C8080 bridge camera. I started uploading to flickr in 2007 and it took my first five years to get to 400,000 views. But in the next seven years that has grown to over 20 million views (12th July 2019). I don't quite know why, for I don't regard myself as a serious photographer. It is purely a hobby as I have a full time job at an air freight company at Manchester Airport. In fact I think of myself as a 61 year old happy snapper who's mission when I go out is to walk our little dog, walk myself and grab a photo or two on the way if I can. I'm a firm believer that variety is the spice of life, so I try to capture all sorts. I like writing too, so when the mood takes me, I like to add some description below the photo, interesting facts, or sometimes pure fiction. Sometimes ridiculous fiction. Don't believe everything you read on my pages! For me, taking photos is just a bit of fun, a challenge to produce results that both satisfy me and might interest others. I hope the subject of my photos, and the occasional humour I attempt, reveal a little of my character and encourage others to join in this 'club'. I'll never take things too seriously so if you wish to be forthright with any comments, feel free! But, please, if you ever feel my photos are worthy of a comment, never, ever describe them as "Awesome!" I just hate that word!. Every day I marvel at the sights on this website, thanks to my contacts. Many photos are simply remarkable. 400,000 views 13th September 2012 5 million views 13th August 2015 10 million views 31st July 2017 15 million views 9th August 2018 20 million views 12th July 2019

Description: Thankfully, I have other skills than just standing there and looking cute. There were only a few brief bursts of light so I made the minimum effort required.

profile picture Neil Shaw That one at the back has got claw marks on it.
INNES [] Yes and there was a viper slithering through there too.
vanessa violet I'm the socially awkward one hiding in the back and trying to blend in. Lovely gathering of birch.

iolite1 Beautiful image. Congratulations on Explore.
Matrix Molto bella
John Very tricky lighting, managed with great ability! Very nice!
Ian Morton wonderful image and I love the light.
INNES [] No, but I know what you mean. Do you know where that is in your neck of the woods? Aren't all the trees dying?
profile picture Jill Lewins [] The location of it is top secret. Thete have been TV journalists there talking to Nash about it but they have been blindfolded so that they don’t know the whereabouts. I have an idea where it is. Brilliant image Mike. Congrats you n Explore
INNES [] I've felt sure I could identify them on Google Map but even though I have scanned every bit of woodland around Blaenau I have not found them
Lindsey1611 lovely shapes to these trees....looks like I missed your big moment in Explore, belated congrats!!
profile picture Jill Lewins [] I think that they are closer to Maentrog
profile picture Jill Lewins Where is this by the way? Or is it secret?
profile picture Jill Lewins You could superimpose your naked lady photo into this. She would look very artistic posing in the middle of the circle
INNES [] Look in the tags and at the map!
INNES [] I've been scanning down that way. If you google the Ash Dome you find plenty pictures and in some you can see hill tops behind, from which you can start to get your bearings.
Yantra I have always loved birches. These have beautifully twisted shape, I like them a lot!
INNES [] I inserted a naked insect. Same sort of 'thing'. Can you find it?
gelimi Really great!
Stefan Bergstrom So beautiful!
Michael Riffle Breathtaking shot. Bon.
